The Secretary of State explained that the committee established by FAO and WHO in 1963 was established to develop international standards and guidelines for food quality, critical ingredients and acceptable maximum concentrations of contaminants. The aim is to promote the protection of consumers’ health and practices that ensure fair food trade. The work carried out in the various committees of the CCMAS has become one of the most important guarantees of food safety worldwide, consumers can rightly trust that food that meets Codex standards is safe and of good quality, he added. Dr. Márton Nobilis also touched on the fact that the Hungarian government considers the quality of food as part of the security of supply and treats it as a priority, which is why the Hungarian Food Book was created on a foreign model, which includes several Codex standards. The state secretary emphasized that our country pays special attention to the correct application of sampling procedures and reliable testing methods, and the development of laboratory systems is also ongoing in order to ensure stable food safety.
