The advantage of food inflation: have consumers become more aware?
The change in the economic situation has an impact on consumer behavior across Europe, including Hungary, where customers are increasingly conscious of their spending. Nowadays, due to significant inflation, a significant number of consumers pay attention to exactly how much and what they buy, thus reducing unnecessary expenses and waste. According to Sándor Nagypéter, president of DélKerTÉSZ, Hungarians also spend less on food, but use it more efficiently.
In addition to price sensitivity, promotions and sales play a prominent role, as they significantly influence consumer decisions. In this context, it is important that the products of Hungarian vegetable producers are widely available in stores at competitive prices, which is favorable for both consumers and producers. In order to increase production efficiency, special attention must be paid to better yields and higher quality – the Pénzcentrum article states.
It is essential for Hungarian vegetable producers to adapt to changing market conditions. This includes continuous technological improvements such as automatic irrigation systems, ventilation and shading of greenhouses. Dealing with extreme weather conditions caused by climate change poses additional challenges for producers, which they must also address with technological innovations.
The development of new varieties of vegetables is also an important factor, especially in order to increase resistance to viruses, which pose an increasing threat to crops. To this end, DélKerTÉSZ continuously conducts variety experiments so that new, resistant varieties are available for market cultivation as soon as possible.
In the future, it will be crucial to increase the promotion and availability of Hungarian products, both on the domestic and international markets, so that Hungarian vegetable producers can remain competitive on the global market in the long term.
