Food Origin More Important Than Ethical Concerns To German Shoppers, Study Finds
Food origin is more important to German consumers than price, while many shoppers don’t pay great attention to ethical concerns, according to a survey commissioned by the EU Food Safety Authority.
For 60% of respondents, the origin of the food is main purchase driver in the supermarket, while for 40% the price is the most essential element, donaukurier.de reported the study as finding.
Moreover, just 35% stated that ethical concerns like animal husbandry are important when making purchasing decisions.
The survey also shows that half of German consumers are interested in possible food safety risks.
Nearly two thirds of the population is worried about the question of whether meat contains hormones, antibiotics or steroids, while 40% care about possible residues of pesticides in food or pollutants in fish, meat or dairy products.
