Climate change is one of the biggest risks to food security
Our country is reducing the challenges caused by droughts and unpredictable weather with a water management strategy and support for precision irrigation technologies, said István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, at the 44th session of the Food and Agriculture Organization Conference, which was held in Rome on Monday.

At the event, the Minister drew attention to the fact that our world continues to be hit by numerous crises: armed conflicts, climate change and economic downturn. That is why Hungary pays special attention to supporting agriculture, promoting sustainable food production and encouraging responsible consumption. He mentioned the Hungarian National Biodiversity Strategy until 2030 as an example, which aims to mitigate the negative effects of climate change and strengthen the resilience of ecosystems. To this end, our country is also prioritizing nature-based solutions and habitat restoration, he added.
In his speech, István Nagy also mentioned that the government treats adaptation to extreme weather as a top priority
Climate change is one of the biggest risks to food security. The Ministry of Agriculture supports agricultural practices that improve soil health, increase biodiversity, and sequester carbon, thereby ensuring the long-term sustainability of farmers’ production activities. In addition, Hungary is committed to expanding organic and organic farming, reducing the environmental footprint of food production, promoting the circular economy, and supporting local food chains. Our country encourages the application of agroecological methods and sustainable animal husbandry systems, thereby creating a balance between productivity and environmental responsibility – the Minister of Agriculture underlined.
