Healthy nutrition starts with responsible animal husbandry and crop production
Auchan has created its Farm to Table program based on its relationship with responsible producers. Partners included in the program must meet several criteria at once, from animal feeding methods, through the use of pesticides and antibiotics to water and energy management, in order to ensure that food from responsible sources reaches consumers’ tables. They also collaborate with the Blue White Heart Association for certain product developments, which guarantees the quality of high-quality and environmentally friendly products. From the end of April, there will be regular tastings in Auchan stores, where customers will also receive dietary advice in addition to the delicacies.
The Blue White Heart Association has enormous knowledge in the field of animal nutrition. For twenty years, they have been working with agricultural engineers and clinical research laboratories to conduct scientific studies on various topics with their participation. The international initiative is present in more than 20 countries around the world. Several actors in the supply chain are part of the program: from farmers to livestock breeders, feed manufacturers, food manufacturers, distributors, research doctors, health professionals, gastronomy experts, chefs, nutritionists and consumers, with 8-10 thousand people.
Their initiative is based on the observation that animals grazed on grass are in much better health, and products made from their milk have more beneficial properties. With the support of research doctors, they set out on a path to demonstrate, under laboratory conditions, the impact on animal health of adjusting the feed of animals raised in stables in a similar way to that of grazing animals.
Their joint product developments with Auchan can be found in the dairy and bakery markets. In the Farm to Table program, products bearing the Blue White Heart logo include milk, sour cream, kefir, butter, cottage cheese, mascarpone, Trappist, smoked Trappist, lump cheeses (natural, Hungarian, garlic) and pastries, the latter including flaxseed Caesar rolls and flaxseed loafs in both fresh and frozen form.
