The EIB committed EUR 804 million to support investments in Hungary in 2022
The bank of the European Union, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Investment Fund (EBA) signed new financing in the amount of 804 million euros (314.6 billion forints) in the past year to finance priority investments in Hungary – summarized the letter sent to MTI on Monday in its statement, the institution of the EU.
As part of its activities in Hungary, the EIB provided financing in the fields of energy, transport and innovation, as well as support for SMEs and mid-cap companies. Three quarters of all signed financing agreements supported climate policy and environmental sustainability. In particular, the EIB provided support for the renovation of residential buildings for energy efficiency purposes and the installation of household renewable energy systems throughout the country within the framework of the Hungarian home renovation program launched in 2021. The EU bank also provided new, targeted support for safer, more comfortable and environmentally friendly long-distance buses and trains, as well as for the development of the public road network.
In partnership with Eximbank, the EIB made EUR 100 million available to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-cap companies
The partnership enables Eximbank to provide financing with competitive and affordable interest rates. The EIB’s statement quotes Teresa Czerwińska, the EIB’s vice-president, who, looking ahead, indicated that the EIB group will focus on green investments in the railway sector, infrastructure development and energy, as well as supporting the financing of SMEs and medium-sized companies. The bank’s statement also mentions that in 2022, the EIB’s advisory services increased the customized advisory support provided to public and private organizations in sectors such as climate change, transport, and research and development. In January 2023, EIB experts provided support in relation to 27 active consultancy assignments, and the number of assignments concluded so far exceeds 140. Since 2006, they have assisted in the preparation of investment projects worth almost 22 billion euros in the fields of transport, water management, healthcare, research and the circular economy.
The European Union’s long-term lending institution has disbursed more than 24 billion euros for developments in Hungary since 1990, the EIB reminded.
