Auchan is preparing for the Christmas season in a special way this year: their fresh and ready-to-cook fish selection includes 11 freshwater and 13 marine fish species, and 16 stores are hosting a live fish market. Based on the experience of previous years, carp and African catfish are the most popular products from domestic partners. However, customers are increasingly open to new flavors and types of fish, so the traditional Christmas offering is constantly expanding. Auchan stores are also offering flexible opening hours during the holiday season: they will be open until 12:00 on December 24, thinking of last-minute shoppers, they will be closed on December 25 and 26, and will be open until 4:00 on December 31.

Fish consumption in Hungary increases year by year, but customer interest remains particularly strong during the Christmas period. According to Auchan’s experience, the turnover of fresh fish products increases dramatically from the beginning of December, and the real peak can traditionally be reached 5–6 days before the holiday. Customers are increasingly open to new flavors and types of fish, which reflects the changing domestic consumer habits and the growing interest in gastronomy.

Auchan will once again offer a wide selection of fresh and ready-to-eat freshwater and marine fish and seafood this year. The company is hosting a live fish market in 16 of its stores – live fish is sold only after being stunned, while in the other stores customers can choose from fresh, packaged fish products.

“We are preparing for this year’s holiday season with 11 freshwater and 13 marine fish species, and we are proud that around 98 percent of our fresh fish comes from domestic fish trading partners. Our turnover continues to be determined by freshwater fish species: they account for around 90 percent of total fresh fish sales, and within this, our carp-related products – cleaned whole fish, pontoon slices, carp fillets and offal – account for more than half of the volume, a total of 55 percent,”

– explained Attila Nagy, Sales and Operations Director of Auchan Hungary.

The The most popular products during the Christmas season, in addition to whole carp and pontoon fillets, are African catfish fillets, various forms of busa, as well as trout and grey catfish. Among the seafood offerings, salmon and tuna fillets, as well as shrimp and mussels, stand out.

One of the highlighted products in Auchan’s Christmas offering is organic grey catfish, which is offered to customers as part of the company’s “From Farm to Table” program. Customers can find native Hungarian grey catfish, raised in clean water lakes and under ecological conditions in the Hortobágy National Park, in a completely ready-to-cook form. The aim of the program is to provide customers with controlled, sustainable and high-quality fish products that meet the strictest environmental, animal welfare and health requirements.

Auchan stores will also have flexible opening hours during the holiday season. Most stores will be open until 12:00 on December 24, and will be closed on December 25 and 26. Customers can find the store opening hours on the Auchan website and on information boards at the entrances to the stores. The festive preparations will also include a fir tree fair this year, which will be available in the parking lots of Auchan stores. Trees will be available in the parking lots of most Auchan stores from the beginning of December until Christmas, so customers can also buy holiday decorations for their homes while shopping.
