Despite the uncertainties of the US tariff policy and the European green transition, the prospects of the domestic tire industry are stable, and the future of the automotive industry is clearly heading towards electric transportation – it was announced at this year’s Continental Tire Conference. At the professional forum, held for the seventh time this year, Continental Hungaria Kft.’s partners and tire industry experts discussed the future and most important trends of the sector. Among the innovations, Conti GreenConcept received special attention: according to Continental’s plans, 100% recycled tires could be put into series production within 5-7 years.

The event started with a welcome speech by Enrico Moncada, Continental Tires’ Regional Manager for Southeast Europe. Moncada emphasized that innovation is the answer to the changes that have accelerated since COVID, and Continental wants to support its customers as a reliable partner in a constantly changing world.

The event focused on a roundtable discussion entitled “Breakthrough or tipping point? On the threshold of a new era for the automotive industry.” The panelists – Gábor Bazsó (Karotta), Gábor Várkonyi, automotive market expert, Dr. Róbert Keszte, Hungarian Country Director of AUMOVIO, and Vilmos Tokaji, South-East European Sales Director of Continental Hungaria Kft. – shed light on the challenges and opportunities facing the automotive industry from several perspectives.

The opening remarks first analyzed the effects of the US tariff policy, which is putting significant pressure on European manufacturers. The experts agreed that although the measures are forcing the industry to react, most manufacturers would rather wait and see and not relocate their production capacities to the USA. Dr. Róbert Keszte pointed out that paying customs duties currently poses a lower risk than costly and lengthy capacity transfers, which would require skilled labor and even decades of investment. Vilmos Tokaji added that the situation of the tire industry is different from the automotive industry: since it sells a significant portion directly to end users, it operates in a much more predictable and stable environment.
