In their press release, they explain: after extensive research, the company cooperating with the university has started producing one of the most promising air disinfectants, hyperpure chlorine dioxide, which they want to use for veterinary purposes. The highly effective virucidal, bacterial and fungicidal compound can help control many diseases on animal farms, including African swine fever and bird flu, and can also reduce the antibiotic treatment of farm animals. In response to MTI’s question, it was announced that a project will be launched within the framework of the collaboration, during which the sensitivity of pathogens important in animal health to chlorine dioxide will be determined in order to optimize the concentration of the disinfectant. In addition to food safety, the development would also improve the productivity of livestock keepers, so in addition to veterinary aspects, the agreement is also justified by economic goals, they added.
Based on the expected results, the University of Veterinary Medicine expects significant market demands
They did not disclose the amount of the project, but they said that depending on the progress of the research, the project would be financed, which could lead to the creation of a complete family of disinfectants. According to the information on its website, Sorapharm was founded in 2007 and is a Hungarian-owned company specializing in drug development research. According to public company data, the company closed sales revenue of almost HUF 1.2 billion in 2021 and HUF 630 million in 2022. Its taxable profit increased from barely 50 million forints in 2021 to 282.4 million forints in 2022.
