The agriculture must work consistently in the next period
Farmers can still count on the Hungarian government in 2023, together we will take up the fight against the release of production costs and market uncertainties, said Minister of Agriculture István Nagy at the Agricultural Conference in Hévíz in relation to the current issues of the agricultural sector.
The head of the ministry highlighted that agriculture must work consistently to be able to farm more modernly and competitively than before, the generational change that is already taking place will be successful, the development of the food industry can gain more momentum and broad cooperation between the actors of the food product sectors will be established. He added that the key to achieving the set goals is the cooperation characteristic of agriculture, the alliance of farmers and the Hungarian government, which guarantees producers that the sector will continue to be supported.
István Nagy also touched on the fact that Hungarian agriculture achieved particularly outstanding results last year
It ensured that the population was supplied with high-quality, safe food while also increasing agricultural exports. Between January and November 2022, the increase was 24 percent. This is important because expanding foreign trade contributes to the financial stability of the national economy, and at the same time it means growing sales opportunities for agricultural enterprises, the minister pointed out. He explained that an important change compared to the 2014-2020 period is that in the following years, the Rural Development Program will no longer determine the rural development support rules, but the Joint Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan (KAP). At the same time, between 2023 and 2025, the VP and the Strategic Plan operate side by side.
The LEADER program will also continue, for which preparations are already underway with the involvement of Local Action Groups
The institutional, executive, and IT preparations necessary for the implementation of the new support system, as well as the preparation of national legislation, are progressing, and all those involved are working to ensure that the submission of uniform applications can begin as usual in April. The new support system is extremely comprehensive, it ensures the resources of Hungarian farmers in the period up to 2027, so that the renewal of our agriculture and food industry can continue, and the strengthening of competitiveness – underlined István Nagy.
