The Hungarian food industry can take a new direction with automation and energy efficiency
The profitability and productivity of the Hungarian food industry continue to lag behind the EU average. The sector currently ranks 25th out of 27 member states in terms of energy efficiency and 18th in terms of productivity, which indicates the potential for development.
“Improving productivity and energy efficiency are clear opportunities for the Hungarian food industry. Stable profitability can be built with automation, digitalization and modern technological developments. Due to the volatility of energy prices, how efficiently a company operates is now not only a cost aspect, but also a factor of operational safety”
– said Zoltán Demeter, Head of K&H’s agricultural business.
“The two main directions of investments are to be welcomed. One is increasing energy efficiency, such as the introduction of modern technologies and renewable energy sources, and the other is increasing automation, which can potentially reduce labor requirements and increase the predictability of expected production”
– the expert opined.
“Energy efficiency developments and increased mechanization are also a financially conscious decision, in addition to addressing the labor shortage. These investments are the cornerstones of a forward-looking, sustainable and crisis-resistant food industry of the future.” – added Zoltán Demeter.
