Pig farming declines in Austria as well
The decline of peasant farms is unstoppable in Austria. Only the larger companies are able to survive.
15 years ago, 239 thousand farms were in Austria with a size of an average of 31.8 hectares.
Now, there is only 175 thousand peasant farms, with an average area of 41.4 hectares.
The number of pig farmers suppressed dramatically. In 1995, 107 thousand farms were breeding pigs, now this number melted to 38 thousand – reports Világgazdaság Online.
