The department’s website said the country’s grain harvest is now expected to be about 62 million tonnes, up 12 percent from its June forecast.
The new estimate is about 26 percent above the 10-year average
The wheat crop is expected to be the fourth-largest in the country’s history, at 33.8 million tonnes, down 1 percent from the June estimate. The department also expects barley to be 14.6 million tonnes and rapeseed to be 6.4 million tonnes, up 10 percent and 1 percent respectively from the June estimate. Australia is one of the world’s largest wheat exporters, with Asian and Middle Eastern countries being its most important export markets.
