The neighbour’s garden: soybean processing in Burgenland
Debates in the European Union concerning the regulation of GMOs divide experts in Hungary as well, albeit from a commercial point of view the trend is clear in Western Europe: consumers appreciate if every stage of a product’s history can be followed from the agricultural land to the shelves of stores. Soybean growing is rather new in Burgenland but its significance is increasing. Austrian dairy group Mona exclusively uses Austrian soybeans in making their products. Good partnership with farmers and a continuous control of processing plants and agricultural land by accredited authorities guarantee that only GMO-free soybeans are used in making Mona products. Soy milk for Mona Naturprodukte GmbH’s JOYA products is produced in Oberwart and the products distributed in Hungary by Nature Kft. JOYA’s are the only soy products sold in Hungary that are guaranteed to be GMO-free.
