More than ten years ago Lidl Magyarország launched its Lidl for Hungarian Suppliers programme, which includes the Lidl Wine Expo Hungary event series, to promote Hungarian wines and help domestic wineries increase their sales on foreign markets too.

As a result, approximately 235 million bottles of Hungarian wine were sold in 2024, nearly half of which found buyers abroad. In Lidl stores shoppers can find wines from all domestic wine regions. Lidl works in close cooperation with the best wineries and actively supports them not only in sales, but also in development and product innovation.

Stable demand, changing trends

Wine and sparkling wine sales by Lidl Magyarország have shown stable growth over the past year and a half, thanks to the expansion of the product range and rapid adaptation to consumer trends. There has been a clear increase in consumer interest in light, aromatic wines, as well as sparkling wines, semi-sparkling wines and wine-based cocktails. The chain compiles its wine and sparkling wine selection based on specific professional criteria, while keeping an eye on market demand. Lidl’s high-quality wines have won several prestigious awards in recent years. Most recently private label sparkling wine Feind Irsai Gyöngyözőbor won a gold medal at the National Wine Competition and the Champion award at VinAgora. Villányi Syrah, which won a gold medal at the 2024 Berliner Wein Trophy, can also be found on store shelves. (x)
