The euro area’s foreign trade surplus in goods has increased
Due to the base effect, the euro area trade surplus increased significantly year-on-year in April this year, according to a report by the European Union’s statistical office, Eurostat, on Tuesday, but the growth fell far short of market expectations.
According to preliminary Eurostat data, the euro area exported 193.8 billion euros worth of goods to the rest of the world in April, up 43.2 percent from a low base in April 2020 due to disease control measures. Euro area imports of goods amounted to 193.8 billion euros, up 37.4 percent from a year before. (MTI)
