The development of the winemaking sector is a priority area, therefore the government will continue to support wineries’ investments, innovation and market access programs in the future – said Tamás Tarpataki, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) responsible for the agricultural market, at the project handover of the Kreinbacher Birtok Champagne Winery in Somlóvásárhely on Friday, according to a statement issued by the ministry on Friday.

The Deputy State Secretary explained that with the government’s support of 3.4 billion forints, the Kreinbacher Birtok was expanded from a total investment of 6.8 billion forints. New, multi-level champagne maturation spaces and storage capacities were created, which serve the production of quality champagne with the most modern technology and energy-saving solutions. Tamás Tarpataki drew attention to the fact that the development fits into the government’s rural development and food industry support policy.

In recent years, the Rural Development Program has supported farmers, processing plants and rural communities with almost 3,000 billion forints

Thanks to this, more than 1,300 food industry investments have been implemented across the country. The goal is for the Hungarian agriculture and food industry to be competitive with modern technology and high-value-added products both at home and on international markets. The Deputy Secretary of State said that domestic wineries can only operate competitively if they stand on several legs and appear on the market with high-quality products, which is why the government remains a partner in the developments. He emphasized that investment and innovation support is being expanded, foreign and domestic market promotion applications are being reopened, and cooperation with producers is also ongoing in addressing challenges affecting the sector – such as protection against grape diseases. Tamás Tarpataki reminded that the Kreinbacher Estate was founded in the early 2000s, and then the estate center, winery and sparkling wine cellar were built in the 2010s. The first self-made sparkling wines appeared in 2014, and in a short time they brought the winery international recognition. The current development serves sustainable and efficient operation. The expansion strengthens the economy of the region, creates jobs and stimulates wine tourism. The development of the Kreinbacher Estate clearly shows that tradition, professional knowledge and modern technology can together strengthen the reputation of Hungarian winemaking – the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement.
