AM: the government remains committed to supporting wine producers
It is our common interest that our historic wine regions produce quality wines, providing a livelihood for farmers, which is why the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) supports market players in the grape and wine sector with numerous tools, even amidst the challenges – emphasized Imre Hubai, State Secretary responsible for agriculture, at the XVI. Martin Day professional event in Soltvadkert, according to the AM’s statement on Friday.

This year, the main challenges were drought and water shortage, accompanied by spring frost damage and then the golden yellow disease. However, the measures taken to address the challenges clearly show that all players in agriculture, including winemakers, can always count on the government under all circumstances – pointed out the State Secretary. As an example, he mentioned that when the golden yellow disease of grapes appeared, a national campaign consisting of seven elements was launched to suppress the disease, which ranges from detection to increasing laboratory capacities and national pesticide protection to the cutting down of infected and abandoned plantations posing a risk. The National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) received 2.5 billion forints and the National Council of Mountain Villages 1.3 billion forints for the implementation of the campaign against golden yellow disease, added Imre Hubai. He also mentioned that support applications for the restructuring of vineyards for the 2025-26 wine marketing year could be submitted electronically on the website of the Hungarian State Treasury (MÁK) between July 20 and August 15, 2025, they added.
In addition to eliminating threats, the government is also supporting the work of winemakers with other tools
Among these, he highlighted the expanding investment support opportunities, for which grape growers can also apply for the purchase of towed machines that help carry out manual labor-intensive operations. Innovation investment support will also be launched, thus making it possible to support the introduction of new technologies and procedures through which players in the sector can reach new markets and consumers – the announcement states. Although grape prices have been adjusted upwards this year, due to international price competition, low stocks and changing consumer demands, Kunság producers must adapt at the same time with competitive prices, quality and innovative sales – indicated Imre Hubai, adding that adaptability is particularly important in this sector today, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
