The Ministry of Agriculture supports soybean growers and the professional organizations they have established thanks to domestic and European Union funds, and focuses on knowledge transfer – emphasized István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, at the Soybean Roadshow in Hédervár, according to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) on Thursday.

The head of the ministry said that last year, applications for production-linked support for grain protein were received for 122 thousand hectares, and the amount paid to 5,626 clients exceeded 7.8 billion forints. This year, the size of the application area is smaller, so the level of support may increase compared to last year – they wrote. István Nagy added that soybeans were grown on 87 thousand hectares of land in the country this year, which is 22 percent higher than the five-year average, and they hope that, based on the latest satellite information estimates, the total harvest may exceed the average of the past 5 years.

Based on the European Union’s estimated yield of 2.26 tons per hectare of domestic soybeans, a total of 197 thousand tons of soybeans can be harvested this year

The domestic production area is mainly concentrated in the western and southern Transdanubian regions, but based on data from recent years, it is also increasing in the Southern Great Plain – the announcement says. According to the Minister of Agriculture, there is hardly any sector in agriculture that does not require prior training, knowledge or experience, and this is especially true for soybean production. Experts from the Hungarian Soybean and White Plant Association are helping to transfer knowledge, and they are promoting the production technologies of this special plant with a seven-site roadshow. The Minister emphasized that there is room and demand for expanding soybean production in Hungary, and for this reason they thank the organization for its work in popularization and knowledge transfer, the Ministry of Agriculture reported.
