The search for and collection of our genetic resources, as well as their conservation, maintenance and utilization, is a strategic issue, said Minister of Agriculture Nagy István on Tuesday at the handover ceremony of the main building of the Poultry Farm of the Farm Animal Gene Conservation Institute in Gödöllő.

The head of the ministry reminded that our genetic resources for food and agriculture, the Hungarian cultivated and farm animal breeds are also part of our national heritage, public treasures, national identity and symbols of Hungary, he wrote.

The Minister added that the Institute for Farm Animal Gene Conservation of the National Center for Biodiversity and Gene Conservation is of paramount importance in storing genetic information on poultry under laboratory conditions. (MTI)
