AM: the government will provide farmers with significant relief when the Rural Development Program is closed
The Ministry of Agriculture (AM) will provide all possible assistance to farmers so that they can access funds from the now-closing Rural Development Program as soon as possible. The implementation of many projects is facing difficulties due to the acquisition of certain permits, which is why significant relief has been made possible by significantly extending the deadline for their acquisition by more than a year, so that the payment of submitted payment applications can be further accelerated – announced István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, according to the AM’s Wednesday statement.

The Minister highlighted that in the period between 2014 and 2022, almost 400 thousand applications received support of 2,942 billion forints from EU and budgetary sources. Of this, 2,803 billion forints have already been paid by the Hungarian State Treasury. The program will officially close on December 31, 2025 – emphasized the minister. István Nagy also drew attention to the fact that it is now particularly important for the farmers concerned to comply with the deadlines for final payment applications. The Managing Authority (MA) of the Rural Development Program now asks those applicants who have not yet submitted their final payment applications – for example, because the issuance of their final permits necessary for the operation of the project (commissioning, operation, water rights, network, etc.) is still in progress – to submit their applications immediately after the start of the licensing procedure, despite the lack of permits. The ministry will ensure that the necessary regulatory background is established so that applications submitted in this way can be closed smoothly and the payment of legitimate subsidies is not delayed. Farmers have enough time, as the beneficiaries can replace the missing permits by December 31, 2026 at the latest, he emphasized. The minister emphasized that the Rural Development Program was not just a support system, but a set of future-oriented investments that fundamentally contributed to the livability and development of the Hungarian countryside, and not least to strengthening domestic food security. The results of the program, co-financed by the Hungarian government, are remarkable. More than 54 thousand agricultural investments were made, from simple machinery purchases to the development of modern livestock farms. Approximately 1,300 food processing plants were able to develop, 3,300 developments were implemented in the field of animal husbandry, and in horticulture, modern vegetable and fruit production was expanded by 6 thousand hectares, he summarized.
