The Bordeaux discount wines of Aldi and Lidl were tested by two sommeliers
Aldi and Lidl have always been famous for their high quality products and competitive prices. Now, however, they have entered a new dimension: the world of wine. The two discount chains offer their Bordeaux discount wines for HUF 1,599, and to find out which is the better choice, sommeliers – Dávid Novák and his partner – tasted both wines in a blind test.
The tasting was done blindly, and after the analysis it became clear which wine elicited which opinions. Aldi’s wine, for example, was given only 5.5 points out of 10, and a lot of criticism was made about the wine’s acidity, tannin content and lack of fruitiness. They expressed that the alcohol is strongly felt and the bitter aftertaste can spoil the overall picture.
However, they had a much more positive opinion of Lidl’s wine. According to their tasters, the wine has “good acidity”, a long and pleasant mouthfeel, and the taste of red berries. In addition, the smell of the wine turned out to be better, and it was even mentioned that the price would be worth HUF 2,500. The tasters gave Lidl wine 6.8-7 points.
