Insects for food use require a thorough food safety assessment
There is a strong desire in Europe to market edible insects and products as food – Magyar Nemzet Online wrote.
This is already possible in some Member States, but only until 2020, so these countries are expected to put considerable pressure on Brussels for EU authorization. Stakeholders have so far asked for the use of grasshopper, cricket and corncob for food. (magyarnemzet.hu, Nagy Kristóf)
