Many Reál stores were opened in Budapest last year, including the first Prémium Reál Élelmiszer supermarket in Lurdy ház, but the number of stores outside the Budapest region also increased. Not only the number of stores expanded, but older stores were modernised in order to improve convenience and comfort. Throughout 2007, Reál pursued intensive sales promotion activities. Apart from promotions, other kinds of surprises also waited for customers visiting Reál stores. Valuable gifts and prizes worth several tens of millions were distributed among customers over the year. Reál had also organised a charity program based on its private label products in September-October for helping sick children, which generated a total of HUF 24 million in donations. Despite the unfavourable economic environment, Reál successfully expanded its revenues last year, but the exact figures are not yet known. Christmas is not as dominant a season for Reál style convenience stores as for many larger stores, but turnover is higher than in other periods. The end of the year season brought the expected results. The number of Reál food stores is over 600 units nation-wide, while there are another 1,700 smaller stores in the ReálPONT chain. Total revenues were HUF 312 billion in 2006, whereas an increase of HUF 10-12 billion is expected for 2007.
