I don’t want to use the old cliché about “new challenges”. The truth is that I have decided to step down as my opinion about some long-term business processes was markedly different from that held by European management, located in Geneva, who claim to represent the interest of the shareholders. I cannot reveal details, because I am bound by a confidentiality agreement, but our argument focused on the segmentation of the market and we also had a difference of opinion over the approach to be used in handling export markets. On the other hand, I had been fortunate to be able to work with an excellent team which had produced a 40 per cent expansion in domestic sales and doubled export sales. However, the thing I am proudest of is that we had invented a “soul” for each of our brands. I am also proud of the working relationships based on mutual advantages which I have built up in the business. It’s too early to say what I am going to do next, but I have no intention of leaving the FMCG sector…
