Watermelon yield may decrease by up to 40 percent
The watermelon season starts this year, with nearly three weeks late, around 15 to 20 July – said Mártonffy Béla, Executive Director of the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Marketing Organisation (FruitVeB).
According to Mártonffy Béla; the bad weather affected badly the yield. Compared to the long-term average of 180 to 200 thousand tons, about a 40 percent decrease can be expected in the yield, on national level. However the outlooks can change upwards, if the bonds mature later, and the hot summer continues – reports Agromonitor.
