There can be a difference of up to HUF 1,800 between ice creams in Budapest
You can find a difference of up to HUF 1,800 between ice cream shops in Budapest, which clearly shows the wide range of ice cream available in the capital. However, prices and quality do not always go hand in hand. The Index compared the prices and offerings of ice cream parlors in different parts of the city, from small shops in the outer districts to downtown pastry shops.
Most expensive ice creams in town
In the Gelarto Rosa ice cream parlor on Szent István tér, the ice creams are not measured in scoops, but by weight. The prices here range from HUF 1,600 to HUF 2,200, depending on how many flavors you choose. The specialty of the store is that it works with 100% natural ingredients and offers special flavors such as dragon fruit or lavender white chocolate.
Mid-range prices
In the Ducksy and Punto Gelato Basilica ice cream parlors in the city center, you have to pay HUF 690 and HUF 850 respectively for a portion of ice cream. Ducksy is popular among tourists due to its relaxed, youthful style and the option to pay in euros. The owner of Punto Gelato said that the rise in prices is mainly due to the increase in raw material prices, especially cocoa.
Affordable ice creams
The Szamos Café and Chocolate Museum on Kossuth Lajos tér and the Erdős és fiai Confectionery on Etele tér offer their ice creams at HUF 650 and HUF 500 respectively. The Szamos name is a guarantee of quality, while Erdős Cukrászda stands out with its natural ingredients and award-winning ice cream.
