According to the analysis, precipitation has come in two waves in the past week, with 20-30 millimeters falling in the western areas, but the amount of rain east of the Danube typically remaining below 2 millimeters. The 30-day precipitation total only exceeds the average on the western border. The vast majority of the country is also significantly behind in the 90-day precipitation total, with the deficit exceeding 100 millimeters in some places in the southern areas, and only in the northern part of the country are there spots where precipitation roughly corresponds to or exceeds the multi-year average. The upper 50-60 cm soil layer in Transdanubia and the north contains sufficient moisture, but in a large area of the Great Plain the upper one-meter layer remains critically dry. Over the past 5-10 days, the temperature has been 2-4 degrees Celsius higher than the usual values for this time of year on average. In the second half of last week, maximums above 20 degrees occurred in a large area, then after Monday’s cold front they typically dropped to 15 degrees, and light night frosts returned from Tuesday.

The harvest of summer crops has been completed or is nearing completion in many places

Rapeseed and winter barley are in strong, good condition in the west and north, and winter wheat has also received the precipitation necessary for germination. However, in the Great Plain, especially in its southeastern part, the soil is critically dry, and there is a huge need for rain. The autumn-winter recharge of the soil in the Great Plain has not yet begun, and this does not bode well – they noted. According to the forecast, the weather will change over the weekend, with rain expected in several waves from Friday evening to Tuesday, and overall precipitation exceeding 10 millimeters is expected in a large area, this time more rain is expected in the eastern and southeastern parts of the country. The temperature will continue to be above average, with daily temperature fluctuations decreasing due to cloudy weather.
