Agrometeorology: soils continue to replenish
The upper half-meter layer of soils contains a lot of moisture almost nationwide, which means favorable conditions for the strengthening of autumn cereals before winter, and the soils continue to replenish when the weather turns rainy again – HungaroMet Zrt. wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
They wrote: November said goodbye to mild but rainy weather, on Thursday and Friday in the northwestern part of Transdanubia only around 1 millimeter of precipitation fell, while elsewhere between 2-7 millimeters of precipitation fell, typically in the form of rain, in some places in the form of snow, and later only scattered, very light rains developed, so overall the past ten days – as well as the past thirty days in most parts of the country – were drier than usual at this time of year. The one-meter layer of the soil in the upper half, southwest and in some places in the northeast was thoroughly moistened, but in the Great Plain, only a little moisture has reached the layer deeper than half a meter. The temperature was 1-2 degrees Celsius higher than usual at this time of year. During the day, the air warmed up to 7-10 degrees in many places in the second half of last week, and then from Monday, with the appearance of fog, the temperature dropped to 4-7 degrees in the gloomy regions.
The rapeseed is developed and in good condition thanks to the rainy but relatively mild weather typical of the first half of autumn
However, the picture is not so uniform in the case of cereals sown in October. The dry period that lasted a month until mid-November resulted in uneven germination and difficult early development in many places, which was greatly helped by the precipitation that fell in the second half of November, and then the relatively mild weather of the past week, which was good for the strengthening of the stands that still only had 3 leaves in some places.
According to the forecast, the weather in the coming days is expected to be mild but rainy compared to the season, with rain coming in several waves, sleet, and snow in the mountains
Overall, most of the country is expected to receive between 10-15 millimeters of precipitation in the next week, thus continuing the autumn-winter recharge of the soils. Minimum temperatures will typically be around or slightly above freezing, and the air will warm up between 2 and 7 degrees during the day.
