According to the forecast, rain, showers, thunderstorms are expected in many places on Thursday and Friday, and precipitation exceeding 10-20 millimeters may fall in many places by the middle of next week, so the agricultural drought may ease in many places. By Sunday, increasingly cooler air will arrive, so the temperature will drop to a daily peak value of 19-24 degrees Celsius by the end of the week, then daytime warming will increase next week and maximums of 25-30 degrees can be expected by the middle of the week. As there will be fewer clouds in the sky, the nights will be cool, with the temperature dropping below 10 degrees in many places, and in some places close to 5 degrees by dawn.

The showers and thunderstorms that occurred at the end of last week only alleviated the increasingly severe agricultural drought in a small area.

In the past 10 days, there has been no rain at all in large areas of Transdanubia, in the north there has been 20 millimeters in several places, and even 61 millimeters in Poroszló. The total rainfall in the past 30 days is 20-60 millimeters below the long-term average almost nationwide, and in the past 90 days it has been 60-140 millimeters less than usual at this time of year. The soil layer near the surface is sufficiently moist in those smaller areas where at least 20 millimeters fell over the weekend, but most of the country is dry. The moisture content of the upper half-meter soil layer is critically dry in relation to the amount of water usable by plants almost nationwide, it is bone dry in the Great Plain, and the deeper soil layer has barely contained any moisture since mid-June. There is a high or severe agricultural drought in most parts of the country.

Summer crops have been extremely affected by the lack of precipitation

The stands are underdeveloped in many places, their green mass is much less than usual at this time, and the plants have already begun to dry out in many places. In accordance with the precipitation distribution, there are very large regional differences in the unirrigated fields, a very poor harvest is expected in a large area of the Great Plain, for example, corn has not formed ears in many places, but there are regions – primarily in the Lesser Plain – where the prospects are still acceptable, and in the immediate vicinity of Miskolc the corn stands are still nice green and the ears are also showing well, while quite nice plates can be seen on the sunflowers.
