There is still moisture in the soil, and corn likes heat, so it promises a good harvest in many places, the National Meteorological Service wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.

According to the analysis, more rain fell in the central parts of the Great Plain in the past week, where it was most needed. Together with the showers and thunderstorms at the beginning of August, the precipitation amount of the last 30 days still shows a surplus in most parts of the country, with a significant deficit compared to the average in small and large spots in the Alföld and the southern part of Baranya. The upper 20 cm layer of the soil still contains moisture in most of the country, but there are drought areas in the Great Plain.
The usual cooling around August 20 did not arrive this year
Instead, there is a heat wave, the maximum temperature has been mostly 30 degrees Celsius, and on some days it has been over 35 degrees Celsius since the middle of last week. They added: the corn is very well developed in many places, typically the stands are still pretty green, and in more and more places they are in the state of waxing. The abundant rainfall of the first week of August did a lot of good for the plants throughout the country, they are mostly still feeding on the rain that fell at that time. They noted: if there is moisture in the soil, the corn can withstand, and even likes, the heat, in some fields around Miskolc, the corn has not been so beautiful for many years. The sunflower is in the state of lemon ripening, which is also characterized by well-developed stands. The heat will continue, only in the first half of next week is it expected that the heat wave will gradually moderate, significant precipitation may arrive from Tuesday.
