The cold front that arrived on Monday moved through almost the entire country with stormy winds, showers, and thunderstorms, but not even 5 millimeters fell in many places from the fast-moving showers. On Tuesday, soaking rains and downpours occurred in some places, and then the rainy weather continued on Wednesday, with significant amounts falling in many places, especially east of the Danube. Overall, the amount of precipitation in recent days has typically been between 10-50 millimeters, but in the west, northwest, and in some spots affected by major downpours, 50-80 millimeters were measured – they explained.

According to the analysis, the agricultural drought has eased across the country, and in many places, especially in Transdanubia, it has even ended in large areas

Where rainfall reached or exceeded 40-50 millimeters, the upper half of the soil, in some places a one-meter layer, was thoroughly moistened, but in the eastern half of Transdanubia and in the southeastern and eastern parts of the country, the soil remains critically dry in many places. The temperature in Transdanubia dropped significantly on Monday, while on the eastern border it only dropped significantly on Wednesday, when the air warmed up to only 18-23 degrees Celsius during the day.

The autumn crops have ripened earlier than usual due to the lack of precipitation, the harvest is in full swing, and the severe thunderstorms have caused serious damage in the fields that have not yet been harvested

The lack of precipitation has also severely affected summer crops, the green mass of the crops is much less than usual at this time of year, and the leaves have already started to dry from the bottom. Corn is already in the head-swelling phase in many places, and sunflowers are in full bloom. The precipitation that fell in the first half of the week proved to be a lifesaver for these crops, but in most parts of the country this was only enough to “extinguish the fire”, and further regular rains and showers would be needed for their development – says the HungaroMet analysis. According to the forecast, moderately warm weather is expected to continue with showers and thunderstorms in places. In most parts of the country, the soils can be expected to dry out by the middle of next week. Large-scale precipitation may arrive again in the middle of next week, but until then, temperatures will slowly rise, with maximums of 27-32 degrees Celsius expected from Sunday, and the air will cool to around 15 degrees at night.
