Agrometeorology: sunny, warm, dry weather helps the ripening of summer plants
There may still be sporadic showers and thunderstorms this week, and mostly sunny, warm, dry weather for most of next week will help the ripening processes of summer plants, the National Meteorological Service announced in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
They wrote that in the past week there were only scattered showers and thunderstorms, and moreover, the most rain fell in the central parts of the Great Plain, where it was most needed. The soil has dried up a lot in recent days after heavy rains at the beginning of the month, but the top 20 centimeters layer contains an adequate amount of moisture almost all over the country. The deeper layers no longer show such a favorable picture: the soil is almost critically dry in a significant part of the Great Plain, and drought areas also occur there.
According to the analysis, maize is well developed in many areas
The abundant rainfall of the first week of August throughout the country was good for the herds, which were mostly in a state of full ripening. In the county of Békés, the plants received less rain during the growing season, so there are less developed fields there, and in the area of Mikepércs in the county of Hajdú-Bihar, you can see stands beaten by ice. The sunflower is in the initial state of ripening, well-developed stands are typical.
According to the forecast of the meteorological service, scattered showers and thunderstorms should be expected until the end of the week
Next week, until Thursday-Friday, precipitation tends to decrease and mostly sunny, dry, warm weather is expected. A further increase in drought areas is expected in the Great Plain. The temperature does not change significantly, the heatwave remains with a peak temperature of 28-35 degrees. The usual cooling down around August 20 is delayed this year, maybe even missed, but the nights are getting longer quickly, by 3-4 minutes a day, so the mornings already bring refreshment in most places – they wrote.
