For the development of rapeseed and for the preparation of the soil for sowing winter cereals, soaking rain is greatly needed, especially in the southern part of the country, but heavy rain is not expected for now – HungaroMet Zrt. wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.

They wrote: in the past week, some rain has fallen somewhere almost every day, but the amount of precipitation was small, and in the past ten days, an amount exceeding 5 millimeters has fallen only in the southwest and northeast. The 30-day precipitation total shows a deficit in most of the country, the deficit reaches 50 millimeters in the southern part of the country. The near-surface layer of the soil is sufficiently moist in many places, but in the southern part of the Great Plain it is dry in large areas, and the soils are very dry more than 50-60 centimeters deep almost throughout the country. The temperature was 2-4 degrees lower than the long-term average, with the highest values mostly rising to around 15 degrees Celsius. From Thursday to Saturday, frosts of up to two meters were recorded in several places, and then the nighttime cooling decreased from Sunday.

The harvest of corn and fruits is underway, and dry, warm weather would be favorable for this

However, soaking rain would be greatly needed for the development of rapeseed and for the preparation of the soil for sowing autumn cereals, especially in the southern part of the country. According to the forecast, several weak weather fronts will pass over Hungary in the coming days, and in addition to variable cloudiness, more or less sunshine is also likely. Minor precipitation may occur on several days, but only a little, so the replenishment of the soils with moisture will not continue, and the near-surface layer will dry out. From Friday to Wednesday, there will be brisk, sometimes strong northwesterly winds in a large area during the day. The peak temperature is likely to be between 16-21 degrees at the end of the week, then gradually drop to about 5 degrees by Wednesday and light frosts will return at night from Wednesday.
