Agrometeorology: you can make good progress with autumn work

In recent days, with the exception of the northeastern landscapes, the near-surface layer of the soil has dried up a lot, so it is possible to make good progress with autumn works, and the dry, mostly sunny weather of the next few days will further dry the soil, HungaroMet Zrt. wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.

They explained: in the past ten days, 15-25 millimeters of rain fell in the west, northwest and northeast, which exceeds the long-term average, while in the central part of the country and the southern half of the Tiszántúl it falls short. Since mid-September, 20-45 millimeters more than the long-term average has fallen in the country’s wide, southwest-northeast band. The near-surface soil layer is saturated in the northeast and contains plenty of moisture elsewhere. The layer between 20 and 50 centimeters is almost saturated, with the exception of the southeastern landscapes, but in the layer deeper than half a meter, there is still a lot of moisture missing in many places in the eastern two-thirds of the country.

The often rainy weather and muddy soil hindered the autumn tillage and the sowing of cereals in many places until the second half of last week

Since then, however, with the exception of the northeastern landscapes, the soil has dried up a lot, and the dry, mostly sunny weather of the next few days will further dry the layer near the surface. Rape is well developed and in good condition, and the conditions are also favorable for the early development of autumn cereals. Barley has already been eliminated in many places, and wheat is also appearing in more and more places. In the next 8-10 days, after the mist and fog patches have dissipated, mostly sunny, dry weather is expected, so the part of the soil close to the surface is expected to continue to dry and dry out. As in the past few days, the temperature is likely to be between 13-18 degrees during the day, and the air will typically cool down between 1-5 degrees at night, but milder weather can be expected in the initially cloudier Transdanubian regions, and weak frosts in places prone to cold.
