Agrometeorology: soil replenishment with moisture in autumn and winter is progressing well
The autumn-winter recharge of the soils is progressing well, in addition to the soil layers close to the surface, moisture also reached the lower layers in the rainy weather of the past few days – wrote the National Meteorological Service (OMSZ) in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.

They wrote: in recent weeks, more than 100 millimeters of rain fell in the northern part of the country and in the southwest. In the north, west and southwest, the upper half-meter layer of the soil has become saturated, while in the Great Plain this is mainly typical of the upper 20-centimeter layer, and there is still a significant lack of moisture in the layer deeper than half a meter. The temperature in the last week was only 2-4 degrees Celsius higher than the long-term average, which meant a significant cooling compared to the previous weeks. On persistently rainy days and after cold fronts, the temperature of the hottest hours remained below 15 degrees Celsius.
Autumn harvesting work has been completed, the rainy weather at the end of October only worsened the quality of the late harvested corn
However, the rainy but mild weather was good for autumn sowing. The canola is well developed, quickly reaching the stage of 6-8 leaves. Barley is characterized by bushy stands in more and more places, and wheat has 1-3 leaves, and in many places 3-5 leaves, depending on the time of sowing. Rain is expected several times in the continuation, and although the weather will remain mild compared to the middle of November, the air will cool below freezing in more and more places at night – warns the OMSZ.
