Agrometeorology: the grain growers need more and more precipitation
The wheat farmers would need more and more precipitation, there is a chance for this from the middle of next week, wrote HungaroMet Zrt. in his agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
They explained: the nature of the weather has not changed in the past week either, the calm, dry, autumn weather continued with patches of mist and fog in the morning. They added: the dry weather has been going on for almost a month in most of the country, so the amount of precipitation for the last thirty days across the country shows a deficit of 25-45 millimeters compared to the long-term average. The layer near the surface of the soil has continued to dry over the past week, the upper 20 centimeter layer is critically dry in many places, with the exception of the southwestern and northeastern regions of the country.
Until last Saturday, the temperature was 3-4 degrees higher than usual at this time, and then the weather cooled down from Sunday. At night, not only in the frosty corners, but also in a large part of the country, the temperature dropped below freezing, mostly between 0 and minus 3 degrees Celsius, and during the day the air only warmed between 9 and 14 degrees.
According to the analysis, it was possible to make good progress with autumn soil work in the dry, mostly sunny weather of the last three weeks
Rapeseed is well developed and in good condition thanks to the rainy but relatively mild weather typical of the first half of autumn. The ear plants sown at the beginning of October found enough moisture for optimal early development, these stands typically have 3-5 leaves or are already bushy, but the soil dried out during the later sowings and they emerge with difficulty, unevenly, and are lagging behind in their development. They added: the vegetation period, which has lasted for the tenth month this year, has disturbed the life cycle of many plants, lilacs are blooming in several places in the southern part of the country, and spring flowers can also be seen in the north. According to the forecast, the weather will remain mostly sunny and dry, the mist and fog spots that form at night will disperse more and more slowly, and from Sunday there may be longer humid and cloudy areas, especially in the western part of the country. However, a change in the weather is expected from the middle of next week, from then on the weather will turn wetter and cooler, but the typical state will still be rain.
