Agrometeorology: fall crops would need precipitation
Sufficient moisture is still available in the soil for the development of the autumn ears of corn, and the high temperatures compared to the season also help the stands to grow stronger, but precipitation would be increasingly necessary for optimal development, wrote HungaroMet Zrt. in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
They explained: the precipitation that fell in October mostly fell in the first half of the month. However, the soil, which was thoroughly moistened by mid-October, lost a lot of its moisture content in the last three weeks due to the mostly dry weather.
In the second half of October, the mostly dry, sunny weather made good progress with the autumn soil work
The canola is developed and in good condition, and with the higher than usual temperature and the still adequate soil moisture, the grain stands are also developing nicely. Barley is characterized by bushy stands in more and more places, and wheat has 1-3 leaves, sometimes 3-5 leaves, depending on the time of sowing – they wrote. The value of the latest vegetation index for mid-October showing the “greenness” of the surface is surprisingly high compared to the time of year, a significant amount of green mass even in the middle of autumn can be explained by the rainy weather of the previous month, which resulted in the greening of the natural vegetation, mainly the meadows and pastures they sprouted again.
According to the forecast, a cold front is coming, behind which we can prepare for colder weather at the beginning of next week
On Saturday, the temperature will drop by only a few degrees, then from Sunday you have to prepare for values between 8-13 degrees during the day, and from Monday the air will cool down between minus 4 and plus 3 degrees at night, stronger frosts can be expected in places prone to cold. However, the nature of the weather will not change significantly, until the middle of next week it will remain cloudy, but basically sunny, quiet, autumn weather, with patches of mist and fog forming at night.
