In the past week, autumn sowings may have continued to grow and grow in milder weather than usual, for which there is sufficient moisture available in the soil in most places – HungaroMet Zrt. wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.

According to the analysis, the total precipitation over the past ten days has exceeded 5 millimeters only in some parts of the Great Plain and in the western part of the country, where 10-20 millimeters have also fallen, while in a significant part of the country only 1-3 millimeters or even less have been measured. The part near the surface of the soil is close to saturation, and in a significant part of the country the water supply of the middle soil layer is also satisfactory, although there are drier spots in the Great Plain. However, significant moisture only reached the soil layer deeper than half a meter in the northern and western parts of the country, the soils in the Great Plain and the eastern half of Transdanubia were barely replenished, and in the Great Plain the water deficit in the upper one-meter layer still exceeded 100 millimeters compared to saturation. The temperature was 3-5 degrees Celsius higher than usual at this time of year. The days were mild, mostly measuring 7-12 degrees.

Rapeseed and winter cereals sprouted nicely in the west and north, quickly becoming strong and in good condition

The moisture content of the soil layer near the surface and the mild weather typical of the first half of November favored their development. In the last decade of November, the stands in the Great Plain also received more thorough irrigation, which had difficulty sprouting and developing in the dry conditions typical of this area until mid-November. The heavy rainfall helped a lot with the water shortage, and the mild weather that has been typical since then has allowed the grain crops to grow a little stronger. According to the forecast, mild, monotonous, gray, gloomy, humid, and foggy weather is expected in the next 8-10 days. A front that will temporarily and only in places break up the cold cushion filling the Carpathian Basin is expected on Sunday, when the clouds may become more patchy in the northern part of the country. Significant precipitation is unlikely at this time either, but drizzle can occur every day.
