Agrometeorology: the area flooded by inland water is increasing in the Great Plains
In the rainy weather, in the southern and eastern regions of the Great Plain, the size of the areas flooded by inland water is increasing, which is not good for autumn crops, the National Meteorological Service wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
It was announced: after the temporary drier period, the weather turned wetter again this week, and in the last days of November, the real winter arrived. In the past thirty days, 50-80 millimeters of rain fell in many places in the southern and northeastern parts of the country, while in other places it rained 10-40 millimeters more than usual. The upper half-meter layer of the soil is saturated in many places, and in the Great Plains, inland water appears in increasingly large areas. In the past week, for the first time in a long time, the average temperature was lower than usual, and the night before last Thursday was freezing all over the country. Since the weekend, the maximums in a large area have only been around 5 degrees Celsius or below.
The long autumn was favorable for the autumn sowings, which was accompanied by heavy rainfall especially from the second half of October
The heavy rain has already stopped on the fields in some places, and the herds do not like permanent water coverage. In many places, the soil is too muddy for autumn soil work. Rapeseed is well developed, quickly reaching the stage of 6-8 leaves, bushy stands are already typical for barley, and wheat is in the stage of 3-5 leaves in many places.
Further significant amounts of precipitation are expected until the end of the week
Typically in the form of rain, but snow is also expected in the north and west on Thursday and Saturday. An overall amount of 15-30 millimeters is likely until Saturday evening, but 40-50 millimeters may fall in the central-west-eastern part of the country, so there is a prospect of further increase in inland water spots. Behind the warm front passing through on Thursday, the weather will soften, and then from Sunday it can be expected to cool down again, the air will cool below freezing throughout the country, in the first days of next week the mornings will be colder than minus 5 degrees in many places, and it will freeze during the day in many places; even from the middle of the week, the amount of daytime warming increases only slightly.
