Agrometeorology: deeper and deeper layers of the soil are filled with moisture
The autumn recharge of the soil has begun, moisture is reaching deeper and deeper layers, but at the same time, the weather becoming rainy again is hindering the remaining harvest, HungaroMet Zrt. wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
They wrote: a wave frontal system arrived on Wednesday, as a result of which the weather became wetter again, until Thursday morning 15-30 millimeters of rain fell in the western and northwestern half of the country, while 1-5 millimeters of rain fell in the south and the Tiszántúl. The 30-day rainfall exceeds the long-term average throughout the country, 50-120 millimeters in the east, while 100-180 millimeters were measured in Transdanubia. The soil layer near the surface has become saturated throughout the country, and the 20-50 centimeter layer also contains plenty of moisture, but deeper than half a meter, due to the exposure of the northwestern part of the country, the lack of moisture is still very significant.
Temperatures dropped significantly behind the frontal system that moved into Sunday morning
On the nights leading up to Monday and Tuesday, the clear weather made the landscape clear in many places, and the air cooled below freezing even at a height of two meters in frost-prone places. They added: since the upper layer of several tens of centimeters of the soil has become wet across the country, the conditions are currently favorable for the development of the autumn cabbage rape and, after the surface has dried, for the sowing of ears of corn. According to the forecast, there is a prospect of rainy weather at first, then on Friday the precipitation will stop from the southwest, and from Saturday the tendency for precipitation will decrease, and from the beginning of next week there is a prospect of slightly warmer weather, with the temperature of the hottest hours exceeding 20 degrees Celsius in many places from Tuesday. Patches of mist and fog will appear in the morning from Saturday.
