The soil near the surface dries out more and more in sunny, dry weather, and the deeper layers in the Great Plain did not fill up with moisture in a large area during the winter – HugaroMet Zrt. wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.

According to the analysis, the precipitation totals of the past 30 days in most parts of the country are below the long-term average, with only a slight excess in the southwest and at the northeastern border. The top one-meter layer did not fill up in many places in the Great Plain by the end of winter, typically 30-50, and in some places 50-70 millimeters are missing from saturation. In the dry weather, the soil near the surface dried out a lot. The temperature has been 1-4 degrees Celsius higher than usual for this time of year in recent days, with minimums around 0 degrees, and maximums around 10 degrees in the middle of last week, and around 15 degrees from the end of the week.

The dormancy of rapeseed and winter cereals has ended, and the fields are looking good

In sunny, dry weather, the layer near the surface of the soil dries out quickly, but this shallow, loose layer also prevents further loss of moisture through evaporation. The sap circulation of fruit trees and grapes has started, and the buds of early stone fruits are swelling, and in some places they have already burst. According to the forecast, sunny, dry, mild, spring weather will continue for the next 8-10 days. Precipitation is not expected until the middle of next week, so the soils will continue to dry out. The morning minimums will be around 0 degrees, and the peak temperature will be around 15 degrees.
