Agrometeorology: more precipitation may fall in Transdanubia, but it will hardly rain in many places in Tiszántúl
Showers will irrigate first the southwestern and then the northeastern half of the country, but a larger amount of precipitation is expected only in Transdanubia, while in many places in Tiszántú it will hardly rain and the soil will continue to dry, HungaroMet Zrt. wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
They wrote: the weather has been mostly dry and mostly sunny for the past week, on Friday the air cooled below 0 degrees Celsius in several places between the Danube and the Tisza and in the northeast, and then the temperature started to rise, on Sunday the maximums were already around 25 degrees, and the average daily temperature was between 15 and 20 degrees. In the second half of last week, weak showers occurred in a few places, followed by dry days across the country, and it did not start raining again until Wednesday evening, but overall, in the majority of the country, the amount of precipitation for the past week was less than 1 millimeter. The top half-meter layer of the soil has dried a lot during the past week, the few centimeters near the surface have completely dried out again. The upper 20 centimeter soil layer is critically dry in the central regions of the southern part of the country, while elsewhere the moisture content of the upper 20 and 50 centimeter layers of the soil is satisfactory for the time being. The layer deeper than half a meter still contains plenty of moisture.
The autumn sowings are two to three weeks earlier in their development than usual: the ears grow intensively, they are already in the stage of ear vomiting
The autumn cabbage-rape has flowered or is at the end of flowering, the formation of stipes is typical, the stands are quite rare in many places. Freshly sorted sunflower and corn are developing intensively due to last week’s rainfall and the warm weather that followed, but at the same time the weather also helped the growth of weeds. The fruit trees have already blossomed, the beginnings of fruiting and the growing crop were threatened several times last week by weak night frosts, in addition to a large number of pests. The acacia is already blooming in the northern areas, including in the area of Miskolc, almost a month earlier than in 2023, when the plants were also damaged by frost. They added: there are many flowers on the trees, the sunny, warm, but not hot weather is favorable for wearing. The bee colonies were able to get sufficiently strong even in the early spring, already at the end of January they were carrying pollen from the hazelnuts on mild days.
According to HungaroMet’s information, the value of the latest vegetation index for the second half of April, showing the “greenness” of the surface, is quite high due to the early arrival of spring, and is characterized by growth corresponding to the season. Vegetation is more developed than average in the entire area of the country.
According to the forecast, the weather will become more changeable, showers and thunderstorms should be expected in several places. In the next week, a larger amount of precipitation is expected in Transdanubia, 10-30 millimeters on regional average, while it will hardly rain in many places in Tiszántúl, and the soil will continue to dry. The temperature does not change significantly, the early summer warm weather typically remains with peak values around 25 degrees, but the maximums will remain below 20 degrees on Friday in the more persistently rainy southwestern regions.
