Agrometeorology: rainfall was good for plant development
The cool weather of the past few days stopped the premature, extremely fast development of the plants, and the precipitation was also good for the vegetation. In the continuation, warmer and drier weather will come, which will speed up the development of plants again – HungaroMet Zrt. wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.

According to the analysis, in the last ten days it rained more than usual across the country, between 30-50 millimeters fell in the northern part of the country and in a large area across the Tiszántúl, but 10-25 millimeters were also measured in the rest of the country, so the moisture supply of the soils improved. The soil layer close to the surface is saturated in places in the northern, western and eastern parts of the country, and in the central regions of the southern part of the country it contains only a little moisture. The water supply of the 20-50 centimeter layer is adequate throughout the country, and the soils are still saturated deeper than that. The temperature was 3-6 degrees Celsius lower than usual, the average daily temperature was typically between 6 and 10 degrees. Ground frosts occurred several times in several places, but in some places the temperature fell below freezing at a height of two meters.
Autumn crops develop two to three weeks earlier than usual
In the northern part of the Great Plain, the autumn crops were destroyed in the winter inland water spots. The corn plants are growing intensively, in more and more places they are in the ear vomiting phase, and the autumn cabbage rape is already at the end of flowering, in many places the stocks are quite rare.
According to the analysis, the cooler weather came in handy, because the spring development phases were no longer shortened due to the unusual heat
The precipitation that came with the cooling was mainly needed by the germinating sunflowers and corn that were just being sorted out, because the preparation of the seed bed and the sowing took place in very dry soil in many places. In addition to the large number of pests, the beginnings of the fruit trees and the growing crop were threatened by weak night frosts. The cool, often rainy weather, which hindered pollination, was not good for the already flowering acacia.
According to the forecast, the dry weather will return in the next week, and the weather will be several degrees warmer than usual, but before that, light frosts may still occur on Friday morning. In addition to lots of sunshine, the drying of the soils will also be facilitated by the strong wind that often arises during the day.
