They pointed out that the most popular brandy fruit, apricots, was produced in much larger quantities in the country than in previous years, and the harvest prospects for other fruits are also favorable. Since the introduction of the public health product tax in 2019, the commercial turnover of pálinka has practically halved, compared to the level that exceeded 1 million hectoliters before 2019, last year the volume was 581 thousand hectoliters. László Mihályi, President of the Pálinka National Council, emphasized in the announcement that despite the favorable harvest prospects, fruit prices remained close to last year’s high values.
In the announcement, they also pointed out that the popularity of private cooking, the number of notified cooking equipment, and the amount of distillate produced in the context of private cooking have increased over the past 10 years
The number of registered private cooking equipment in Hungary is more than 30,000 today. Agroinform.hu draws attention to the mandatory redemption system (DRS) introduced as of July 1. As a general rule, from this date on, only a product whose bottle has been registered with Mol Hulladékzágászólji Zrt (MOHU) can be put on the market. A brewery that sells less than 5,000 bottles per year still does not need to enter the DRS system. Therefore, one of two identical bottles can be redeemed for HUF 50, while the other cannot. The difference can be detected by the consumer in only one way, whether it has the HUF 50 logo – they write in the announcement.
