Ministry of Agriculture: Almost all eligible farmers have received area-based and animal-based subsidies
By the end of June, the Hungarian State Treasury had paid out approximately HUF 767.6 billion to almost 157,000 farmers. This is an amount 11 billion HUF higher than the previous year. The vast majority of area-based and animal-based subsidies applied for under the 2024 Single Application arrived faster than in previous years, said József Viski, State Secretary for Agricultural and Rural Development Support at the Ministry of Agriculture (MA), in his statement on Friday.

He highlighted that rapid payments are particularly important for production security and farmers’ liquidity, given that weather conditions such as spring frost damage or drought are making production difficult this year as well. Presenting the data, he said that 153,300 farmers received HUF 541.3 billion in payments under direct subsidies and related temporary national subsidies. This amount exceeded the amount of a year ago by HUF 25 billion. The Hungarian State Treasury paid basic subsidies to 149,000 farmers in the amount of HUF 272.3 billion. Redistributive subsidies for farmers in smaller areas, amounting to approximately HUF 74.5 billion, were paid to 148,600 clients.
As part of the additional area-based support for young farmers, which encourages generational change, HUF 7.4 billion was paid to 5,800 people
The Treasury transferred HUF 95.2 billion to approximately 64,500 people participating in the Agro-ecological program, while HUF 78.5 billion was transferred to 39,200 farmers under the 13 production-related area- and animal-based subsidies, the State Secretary listed. Within the framework of area- and animal-based rural development subsidies, 51.9 thousand farmers received HUF 226.3 billion in support based on the 2024 Single Applications, he added. Within the framework of the agri-environmental management payment for additional obligations voluntarily undertaken to preserve natural resources, 16.4 thousand farmers received HUF 112 billion in support. The Treasury allocated HUF 31.4 billion to 4.4 thousand people under the title of support for organic farming. Those eligible received HUF 27.2 billion in forestry subsidies. Within the framework of animal husbandry-related subsidies, mainly animal welfare and gene conservation subsidies, farmers received a total of HUF 29.2 billion. Insurance premium subsidies were paid to 29.2 thousand people, worth HUF 12.9 billion. A decision may be made in the near future to allow farmers to receive an increased level of advance payments this year as well. The Treasury has started processing the applications submitted in the spring, the rapid progress of which is a fundamental condition for the start of advance payments at the highest possible rate, underlined József Viski.
