István Nagy highlighted that the number of young people who envision their future in agriculture has been growing dynamically since 2020. While 2,535 students were admitted to an agricultural higher education major in 2020, this number has increased to 3,548 this year.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, 12 Hungarian universities will launch agricultural majors nationwide in 2025

The largest number of applicants, a total of 1,648, can begin their studies at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, but the training offered by the University of Debrecen, the University of Veterinary Medicine and Széchenyi István University are also very popular. 3,196 students can study in state-funded majors this year, while 352 students can study in fee-based training from this autumn. Modernization, the use of the most advanced IT tools, the application of robotics and artificial intelligence in everyday farming are part of today’s agriculture – the minister emphasized. Thus, every student who wants to continue their studies in agriculture can find the major and higher education institution that suits them. The openness of agricultural higher education and the basic, master’s and undivided training courses available here increasingly provide students with secure knowledge, existential opportunities and long-term perspectives. This process is well indicated, for example, by the fact that compared to 2020, the number of students admitted to the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences increased by 57 percent, while the number of those admitted to the Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty of Széchenyi István University increased by a total of 88 percent. István Nagy added: the goal is to ensure the appropriate supply of specialists for Hungarian agriculture from secondary vocational training to higher education. Our common interest is to ensure long-term safe food production, which cannot be achieved without well-trained specialists – the minister emphasized, according to the AM statement.
