Ministry of Agriculture: food safety is guaranteed even at Easter
This year, the country-wide spring seasonal food chain inspection started on March 14 and will last until April 10. So far, 1,154 investigations have been carried out, of which experts have imposed fines in 87 cases, totaling more than HUF 6.3 million – Márton Nobilis, the State Secretary responsible for the food industry and trade policy of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) announced in his statement on Wednesday.
The state secretary explained that this year’s spring seasonal inspections will also be carried out by the regionally competent food chain supervisory bodies and Nébih’s experts under the direction of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih). He emphasized that the purpose of the official supervision is to prevent food of unknown origin, unsafe and of inadequate quality from reaching consumers’ tables on Easter.
The authority particularly checks edible eggs, marinated and smoked meat products, cold kitchen products, confectionery products, prime imported vegetables and fruits, wine products and spirits, the state secretary said.
Márton Nobilis added that during the first period of the seasonal inspection, March 14-26. between 1154 inspections were carried out. Within this, the experts examined 142 food production sites, 657 food distributors and 202 restaurants, as well as 133 small producers and 20 primary producers. Due to the irregularities, the inspectors issued 12 warnings, 87 fines and a total of more than HUF 6.3 million.
