According to the announcement of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) on Thursday, the minister explained that the coronavirus epidemic, the Russian-Ukrainian war, food security challenges and this year’s severe drought will fundamentally determine the situation of the agriculture and food industry in the coming period as well. The challenges have drawn society’s attention to the fact that the daily income can even become uncertain. The head of the ministry pointed out that the most important goal is the modernization of agriculture, making the sector crisis-proof. The government provides the resources to create competitiveness and modernization, from 2023 it will spend three times more money on agriculture than before.

The entire agricultural support system is being transformed so that as many developments as possible can be implemented

Agriculture must be made into a rejuvenating, strengthening, competitive and environmentally conscious sector in the coming years, otherwise the Hungarian agriculture and food industry will fall behind significantly, he added. István Nagy asked the banks to trust the farmers, as it is worth investing in agriculture and the food industry. In order for modernization to be realized, agriculture also needs the cooperation of the banking sector. Common thinking is key – he emphasized. During the round table discussion, the minister emphasized that the conditions of farming are fundamentally and continuously changing, the question is whether the farmers follow the changes or whether they themselves change. István Nagy drew attention to the fact that producers must be open-minded and accept new things, for example, it is possible that they will have to grow a different plant than before – informs the announcement of the Ministry of Agriculture.
