Agricultural Chamber: the production value of horticulture can be doubled
The production value of the Hungarian horticultural industry is about 400 billion HUF annually, which can be increased by up to 800 billion HUF through modernization, rationalization of regulation and increased marketing activity – Mártonffy Béla, President of the National Chamber of Agriculture told MTI.
He recalled that since the system change, Hungary’s vegetable production fell by a third from 2.4 million to 1.6 million tonnes, and its fruit production fell by half from 1.4 million to 750-800 thousand tonnes. The average vegetable and fruit production of nearly 2.5 million tons per year could be increased by up to 1 million tons according to the country department head of the agrarian chamber. (MTI)
